NFT MUSEUM AWARDED RURAL INNOVATION GRANT TO HELP EDUCATE AND RAISE AWARENESS OF DIGITAL EQUITY THROUGH THE DIGITAL LITERACY MURAL INITIATIVE

NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA. (SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2022) — The NFT Museum of Newberry, South Carolina today announced the award of a Digital Equity Innovations Grant by the South Carolina Office of Rural Health for the Digital Literacy Mural Initiative

Rural digital equity grants support projects that utilize digital resources to address COVID-19 related health disparities, boost rural economic development and contribute to the overall health of a rural community.

“These funds allow communities to use innovative approaches to address both health and social factors… These activities not only improve the health and wellbeing of rural communities in the present, but they build the capacity for the future, beyond COVID-19.” - Andrew Chandler, Program Manager, SCORH

Funds from the grant are being used to fund the NFT Museum’s Digital Mural & Literacy Initiative. This includes five temporary digital mural installations throughout historic downtown Newberry. Each installation will display contemporary digital art created by both regional artists and artists throughout the world. The first digital mural installation is complete and can be seen on Main St, on the block between College St & Caldwell St. The installation is to be unveiled tonight at the City of Newberry’s First Friday Shop & Dine Event.

In addition, a digital literacy computer workstation is being installed in the museum lobby. Local residents of all ages are encouraged to attend the museum and learn how to create digital assets and interact with blockchain technology.

“The goal of the Digital Literacy & Mural Initiative is to help the community develop the skills necessary to participate in emerging digital and blockchain ecosystems. The digital murals are beautiful, larger than life displays of contemporary digital art projected onto walls throughout our historic downtown. Locals can visit the museum and learn how to create digital art and interact with blockchain tech at our free digital literacy workstation. The reputation of Newberry as an art town continues to grow. Visitors and artists from throughout the region are invited to come to Newberry and enjoy these larger than life outdoor art exhibitions.” - Robert Matheson, Artist & Founder, NFT Museum

The Digital Literacy Mural Initiative is made possible, in part, through funding from the South Carolina Office of Rural Health and support from local businesses & the City of Newberry.

Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday noon-4pm or by appointment.
